Communications Assistant
Charity People are delighted to be partnering with Moorfields Eye Charity to recruit for a Communications Assistant to join their talented team. Primarily a digital communications position, the postholder will work closely with the charity’s Digital Communications Officer and Communications Manager to help build the external and internal profile of Moorfields Eye Charity across a wide range of audiences.

The Charity is the main grant making and fundraising charity for Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and its academic partner, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. It provides targeted funds, above and beyond the responsibility of the NHS, making a difference for patients at Moorfields and for people with sight loss around the world. The charity helps Moorfields and UCL ensure it provides the best possible care for its patients, educates the researchers and clinicians of tomorrow, and supports leading-edge research that aims to develop new treatments for blinding diseases.
About the role
We are looking for a Communications Assistant to come in and support with a range of exciting campaigns to help increase brand awareness for the charity across a range of predominately digital content. The postholder will support the implementation of the charity’s communications strategy, as well as taking responsibility for tasks such as:
- Updating the day-to-day content of the charity’s website and social media channels
- Creating and co-ordinating a content plan for social media; implementing internal processes; and posting content and engaging with online stakeholders on the charity’s social media channels
- Helping enhance content and improve engagement by responding to analytics results
- Producing the quarterly enewsletter and providing support to the Digital Communications Officer with email communications using Mailchimp including implementing processes across other teams
- Contributing to the writing and editing of impactful copy to use across a range of the charity’s communication channels, including website news stories, social media, marketing publications, Moorfields Eye Hospital internal news, and other materials
- Supporting wider delivery of the charity’s communications activity such as creating and editing graphics, producing short films, and organising the multimedia library
- Operating the content management system (CMS) for the charity’s website keeping the site updated and ensuring that the website is optimised for search engines (SEO).
About you
We are looking for someone with experience in marketing or communications, both offline and online. You should have particular knowledge and experience of the following:
- Experience of using social media and digital platforms
- Website, CMS, design and copywriting experience including proven ability to write and edit engaging copy for different audiences across varied communications channels
- The ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously as well as to work to deadlines and prioritise work
- Experience in a digital communications role
- Experience of filming and editing video and audio
- Experience of producing and editing photographs and digital graphics
- Understanding of journalistic story values
- Demonstrable understanding of effective digital communications and a willingness to keep up to date with technologies and developments.

Location: London, City Road EC1. Hybrid working with a mix of time in the London office and from home
Salary: £24,060 to £28,306
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week)
Benefits: Excellent package including 27 days annual leave + bank holidays
